Nestling near the very centre of the Dale, Leyburn offers itself as a fantastic base for exploring the whole of the Yorkshire Dales.

Over the years the town has evolved to become a local centre for shopping and trade and has many fine, often locally owned, shops to offer the more discerning gift hunter.

Market day is Friday and on the fourth Saturday of every month the Farmers Market comes to town, proffering all host of locally grown and produced foods and crafts.

Just a short walk from the market square is Leyburn "Shawl", a vantage point offering mesmerising views out across Wensleydale.

The derivation of Leyburn as a place name is especially apt, coming as it does from Old English and Meaning "the stream in the woodland clearing".

Highlights from the busy calendar of events in Leyburn include the Dales Festival of Food and Drink as well as the hugely popular Wensleydale Agricultural Show.
